Polo neck layers

Today marks the Autumnal Equinox, traditionally where day and night are equal in length and with the official start of autumn around the corner, it seems fit to start to discuss autumn/winter dressing.

As seen from February’s shows, a strong modernist style became apparent as the polo neck was thrust into the spotlight. Worn under heavy gauge jumpers (both V, Crew and U styles), t-shirts and shirts, it is the perfect way to bring the 50s beat-gen style up to date.

Contrast is key, in terms of colour pairings and textures, shades of teal, luminous orange and yellow are enhanced by wearing over black. Adventurous colour usage as seen at Jil Sander, should be attempted with caution but is encouraged in order to brighten up our grey UK winter mornings.

For those, like myself, who dread the biting winds but cannot abide scarves nor bulky outerwear, our time has come.
